Precautions for selecting wires and cables

Jan 14, 2026

For wire and cable buyers, it is crucial to purchase products that are reliable in quality and meet relevant standards. In this article, we will highlight several key points to consider when selecting wire and cable, hoping to assist you in choosing the right products and placing your orders with confidence.

Check the inspection report. Wire and cable are safety-critical products, and each country has different certification requirements. Therefore, suppliers need to provide valid certifications specific to the market you are in, otherwise, the quality of wire and cable products lacks basis. It is not credible to merely claim "compliance with standards"; certificates are the most powerful proof.

Examine the packaging. The details of the packaging can reflect, to some extent, the level of standardization and quality awareness of the manufacturing enterprise. When making a purchase, pay attention to whether the packaging is exquisite, the printing is clear, the model specifications are complete, and whether there is continuous and clear spray code on the outer sheath of the cable.

Observe the appearance. High-quality cable outer sheaths and insulation layers have smooth surfaces, uniform color, good roundness, and are free of visible impurities, indentations, or eccentricities. On the other hand, most inferior products have rough surfaces and significant ovalness.

Consider the conductor. The conductor serves as the medium for current transmission, and its quality is of utmost importance. High-quality copper conductors are bright purplish red in color and have a soft texture. You can request the supplier to provide conductor resistance test data to ensure compliance with standards. An excessively high resistance value can lead to increased power loss and the risk of overheating.

Measure the length of wires and cables. Short length is a common act of dishonesty, which can directly lead to increased project costs. When selecting and purchasing, do not be tempted by cheap prices. Choose wires and cables with actual lengths less than their nominal lengths. The length must correspond to the nominal length and fall within the error range allowed by national regulations.
