Wires and cables, especially PVC insulated cables and wires, are the main carriers of power transmission and are widely used.

The raw materials for producing PVC insulated cables and wires are mainly copper wires, aluminum wires and PVC insulating materials (commonly known as plastics), therefore, their quality directly affects the quality of PVC insulated cable and wire products.

In PVC cable, the outer skin is called PVC insulation, the inner sheath is also PVC insulation, and the inner core is copper core. It has the following advantages:

1. Small footprint. Generally buried in soil or laid indoors, in trenches and tunnels, the insulation distance between lines is small, no poles and towers are required, and it occupies less land and basically does not occupy space on the ground.

2. High reliability. It is less affected by climatic conditions and surrounding environment, with stable transmission performance and high reliability.

3. It has more favorable conditions for the development of ultra-high voltage and large capacity, such as low temperature, superconducting power cable, etc.

4. The distributed capacitance is large, the maintenance workload is small, and the possibility of electric shock is small.

Faced with the cable and wire products of many enterprises, consumers should pay attention to the following points when purchasing and using:

1. First, you should choose reliable and reputable products.

Pay attention to product identification, to prevent counterfeit products.

Generally, the label of PVC insulated cables and wires should be marked with the factory name, rated voltage, specification, model, length, etc.,

Especially on the cables and wires, continuity marks including rated voltage and model should be printed, and the spacing between single cores should be marked. It should not be greater than 200 mm, and the spacing of the jacket wire marks should not be greater than 500 mm.

2. Before purchasing PVC insulated cable and wire products, we must first consider its use.

In general, the current passing through the wire is calculated by the power of the electrical appliance, and then the specifications of the wire are purchased according to the current size.

You can ask an experienced professional electrician, because the current carrying capacity of the wire is related to the cross-section of the wire, as well as the material (aluminum or copper), type, laying method (open laying or pipe penetration, etc.) of the wire, and the ambient temperature. There are many factors and the calculation is more complicated.

3. In the process of product purchase, first, you can look at the cross-section of the wire, the copper (aluminum) core should be in the middle, and the thickness of the plastic layer should be uniform, then you can try to peel off the plastic at one end of the wire, if it can be easily stripped If the copper (aluminum) core is removed, the strength of the plastic may not be enough.

After stripping the copper (aluminum) core, you can observe the material of the copper (aluminum) core. Under normal circumstances, its surface should have a metallic luster. White means that the metal is oxidized, so don’t choose to buy it. If possible, you can try to burn it.

If a general lighter can burn, and the flame cannot be self-extinguished or the self-extinguishing time is long, it means that the wire is not flame-resistant, do not buy such a wire.

4. When using plastic wires, be sure to wire them correctly, usually by a professional electrician. When wiring by yourself, pay attention to the plastic wire joints, which should be firmly connected, and do not simply wrap them together with tape, so that the joints are prone to heat after power-on, it will cause fire in severe cases!
