What is the difference between PFA and PTFE

Jul 01, 2021

The difference between "PTFE" and "PFA":

Appearance: PFA is translucent, PTFE is opaque pure white.

Temperature resistance: PFA:-200 ~ +260oC, PTFE: -200 ~ +250oC.

The shape of the raw material: PFA is granular, PTFE is powder.

PTFE:

PTFE commonly mentioned as "non-stick coating" or "easy to clean material." The material is immune to acids and alkalis and various organic solvents, and is nearly insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, PTFE has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, and its friction coefficient is very low, so it can be used as a lubricant, and it is also a perfect coating for easy cleaning of the inner layer of water pipes.

Weather resistance, radiation resistance and low permeability: it can be exposed to the atmosphere for a long time, while the surface and performance remain unchanged.

Non-combustibility: The oxygen tolerance is lower than 90.

Acid and alkali resistance: it is insoluble in strong acids, strong alkalis and organic solvents.

Oxidation resistance: It can resist the corrosion of strong oxidants.

Acidity and alkalinity: neutral.

PFA:

PFA plastic is a copolymer of a small amount of perfluoropropyl perfluorovinyl ether and polytetrafluoroethylene. It enhances melt adhesion and reduces the viscosity of the solution, and its performance is the same as that of polytetrafluoroethylene. This resin are often directly processed into products by ordinary thermoplastic molding methods. It is suitable for making corrosion-resistant parts, wear-resistant parts, seals, insulation and medical equipment parts, high-temperature wires, cable insulation, anti-corrosion equipment, sealing materials, pump and valve bushings, and chemical containers.

Its long-term use temperature is -196-260 degrees, it has excellent chemical resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, the lowest friction coefficient, good plastic performance, good electrical performance, and its electrical insulation is not affected by temperature. It is known as the "Plastic King" ".

Its chemical resistance is analogous to PTFE and better than vinylidene fluoride.

Its creep resistance and compressive strength are better than PTFE. It has high tensile strength and the elongation rate can reach 100-300%. It has good dielectric properties and excellent radiation resistance.

It is suitable for manufacturing corrosion-resistant parts, reducing wear parts, seals, insulation and medical equipment parts, high-temperature wires, cable insulation, anti-corrosion equipment, sealing materials, pump and valve bushings, and chemical containers.
